PRESIDENT'S BLOG
By Ana Aquino-Pérez
Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed their time off this summer and got to do
something special with their families, significant other, and friends. This summer we
welcomed our new board member, Jodie Armstrong, as the new chapter's secretary
and thanked Janet Nelson for her great contributions in the last two years. They both
bring and brought new perspectives to our board. We are lucky to have them work
with us. We are ready to start a new year where we hope to offer you a number of
programs and activities that will strengthen your knowledge and skills and will add
value to your organizations.
This summer the board and a number of committees were busy organizing the Great
Lakes Region Leadership Conference and preparing for this coming year. The
weekend of July 28-30, we successfully hosted the Great Lakes Region Leadership
Conference. We received excellent feedback from the participants. The information
the chapters' leaders shared was invaluable to all participants and a number of great
ideas were given for participants to use in their own chapters.
We also continued to work on the chapter's strategic plan and the implementation
plans for the next three years. A draft of the strategic plan will be made available to
all of you by the end of September for your feedback. We will also be looking for
volunteers to work on committees that will help us implement the plan's goals and
objectives. We are counting on all of you to help us with this effort.
The upcoming programs will be posted soon on the Web site. So, please visit often
so you can reserve the time on your calendars. If you have a particular topic that you
would like to see addressed or would like to be a speaker, please contact Ruth
Breunig. We are also finalizing the chapter Web site and hope to have it go live
within the next month. We will be looking for feedback on the site also. Rosemary
Stark continues to look for articles for the newsletter. We are looking for a few guest
column writers. If you have a project you would like to share with the membership,
have questions or need help with an issue, you might want to publish it to get the
most answers and suggestions.
We are looking forward to a great new year and hope to see you all there. Don't
forget to keep us up to date with your contact information so you don't miss out on
anything!
See you in September!
