RIMM Proclamation
PRESIDENT'S BLOG
By Ana Aquino-Pérez
March was a busy month for us. We held our Tri-chapter program in Fond du Lac.
Susan McKinney's presentation on privacy legislation was very well-received and
got excellent feedback from the participants. On March 22, we held our Spring
Seminar at UW-Madison Fluno Center for Executive Education. Elizabeth Adkins,
the Global Information director of Ford Motor Company, and Jim Just from
IMERGE were the main speakers. They addressed the collaboration and
coordination of people, processes, and technical systems that need to take place to
manage records throughout their respective lifecycles. The seminar also included an
afternoon panel that provided the participants an opportunity to ask questions on any
issues regarding records and information management.
This year we included a vendors' fair again as part of the seminar day of activities.
Participants were able to visit with several providers and find out information about
the records and information management solutions and tools they provide. The
seminar facility was fantastic, and Lori Ashley did a fabulous job at moderating the
sessions and ensuring participation. It was a great seminar and the feedback
received was excellent! Our hats are off to Lori Ashley and her planning team again
on a job well done.
We are moving full speed ahead for April as well. We were able to secure a
proclamation from Wisconsin's Governor Jim Doyle declaring April to be Records
and Information Management Month (RIMM). On April 20-21 we will be holding
one of our first big RIMM events. Our chapter, in conjunction with Kard Recycling
& Shredding, is sponsoring a shredding event where we will be offering free
shredding to the Madison community and small area businesses. We will also be
providing short presentations on identity theft to the people that come and take
advantage of this opportunity. We will have information available on records
management practices that would be helpful for them to use in their personal lives
and in their businesses.
In addition, on April 20 members of the Society of Technical Communication (STC)
will be joining us for an additional educational program on Enterprise Content
Management (ECM): "Everything You Wanted to Know About ECM And What No
One Was Able to Tell You." Ruth Breunig has gathered an excellent panel that will
be discussing the various aspects of ECM.
Remember to keep us informed of your contact information so you don't miss these
exciting events. We look forward to seeing you at our RIMM events, so mark your
calendar and pass the word along to others.
